Beloved Wild Geese
This month marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Wild Goose Company!
Over the last four decades, this crucible of Michael's Work and Teaching has brought so much peace and joy, insight and energy, to so many of us. And continues to do so.
Below, Michael tells the story of the experience he had that led to his founding of the Wild Goose Company:
"One of my satoris took place in Denmark and was the starting point for the Wild Goose Company - or at least the starting point of that description of the work that was already happening but which would take a shape. It happened during a lunch break from the seminar I was doing there, which was taking place just by the shore.
I had gone to sit on the shore, on the edge of the water, where right in front of me, two wild geese were squatting on the water. Then suddenly they took off and swept across the sky, filling the sky, and vanished into nothing, disappeared without a trace. The effect of this upon me was shattering. My mind completely stopped. There was nothing else but the wild geese. Nothing else existed but the sound and the movement of these wild geese.
I sat there for a while in some kind of extra-ordinary state - very dynamic. Then I staggered back to my room, and I lay down on the bed, and then came a kind of statement from somewhere, saying "You will start something called the Wild Goose Company". And a few minutes later there came to me the well known Zen saying which I had read and stowed away somewhere in my memory: "The wild goose sweeps across the sky leaving no trace."
And then the Wild Goose Company started about six months later, in Switzerland, in the summer of 1984..."
