'As long as you are practising awareness you will be aware of everything instant by instant, which is more or less the continuation of your time, but the fact is that you are already inevitably and always in the here-and-now. You are practising being in the here-and-now, and you are practising it by putting your awareness on the here-and-now each moment, but the fact is that there is nowhere else you can be. Even when you go off into thoughts with the past, the present, the future, hopes and fears and so on, stories, movies, so you are not in touch with the fact that you are here-and-now, then the fact is that you are always in the here-and-now – it is impossible not to be.'
